Things to do while
based at Robertson's Beach
Yarram is at the heart of the most beautiful country
in Gippsland. From the splendour of Ninety Mile Beach to the cool atmosphere of Tarra Valley National Park to historic Port Albert.
The town of Yarram itself offers the visitor a wide range
of options: There is an eighteen hole golf course frequented
by many kangaroos, bowling greens, tennis courts, a swimming
pool, extensive shopping facilities, hotels and the recently
restored Regent Theatre. The old Court House is an architectural
gem and now serves as an information centre.
There is a large variety
of eating venues and nearby Port Albert is famous for it's seafood. We recommended the old General
store in Port Albert for beautifully presented, top quality local produce. The service
is friendly and efficient and at reasonable prices, your hosts are Steve and Vida.
Fishing is a major attraction of the area with launching
ramps, hire and charter boats all on offer at Port Albert
and tackle and bait available throughout the district.
You can also visit painters' galleries, a museum and numerous
historical sites around the district.

around.
The museum is open every day from September to May and at weekends for the rest of the year. ft has a
collection of maritime artifacts, sea shells and ships logbooks, plus many examples of modern seafaring
equipment.

Yarram is situated near the western end of Ninety Mile Beach
which stretches all the way to Lakes Entrance and beyond. The
water is clean and incredibly blue contrasting with the honey
coloured sand and stark white dunes.
The main points of access to the Ninety Mile Beach are at McLoughlins
Beach, Manns Beach and Woodside, all attractive little places
to visit in their own right. Along with Robertson's Beach they
all retain that unique relaxed atmosphere of the small, out-of-the-way
community. They have little or no shops, most have dirt roads
and all are completely unsophisticated. But they are full of
charm and peace, plus of course, they are all great places to
go fishing

Just a few kilometres south of Yarram are the two small townships of Alberton
and Tarraville. Tarraville is one of the oldest towns in Victoria; there is still the old church,
built in the 1850's entirely of wood and with no nails being used in its construction.
Alberton is another historic area. The town was settled in the 1880's and contains State School No,1
and a fine old Hotel, which still serves the local community.

The Victoria Hotel in Alberton Built in 1890

Christ Church, Church of England, Tarraville Built in 1856
The National Estate records that Christ Church
is a rectangular timber Gothic Revival which was
built in 1856 to a design by J. H. W. Pettit and
George Hastings. It was reputedly the first
church in Gippsland and is 'a rare surviving
example of drop slab construction'. In recent
times it has been painted blue and cream.
